In a design landscape increasingly defined by visual excess, Pink Coyote Design Studio takes a quieter, more considered approach. Founded in 2018 by Architect Shivani Joshi, the Ahmedabad-based multidisciplinary practice has established its identity through an integrated approach to architecture, interiors and bespoke furniture.

With more than 45 completed design projects, Pink Coyote has developed a distinctive language that brings together clean lines, minimalism, functional forms and understated materiality. The result is architecture and interiors that feel contemporary yet rooted, refined yet unpretentious.

A Philosophy of Liberation and Transformation

The name Pink Coyote itself captures the studio's underlying philosophy.

For the practice, Pink represents liberation, while the Coyote represents transformation in a spiritual context. Together, they express an approach to design that embraces change, individuality and the possibility of creating spaces that evolve beyond conventional definitions.

This philosophy manifests itself through an architecture that does not rely on unnecessary ornamentation. Instead, the studio explores proportion, material, light, functionality and detail to create spaces with a sense of quiet luxury.

Its portfolio extends across workspace and office interiors, luxury residential interiors and residential-scale architecture, with each project developed as an individual response to its context and users.

The Architect Behind the Practice

At the heart of Pink Coyote is Shivani Joshi, Founder and Principal Architect.

Born in Ahmedabad, Joshi graduated from CEPT University, where her academic journey was marked by several recognitions, including Best Project awards for her Pre-final Studio, Final Year Studio and Research Thesis, along with the Kshitij Jain Design Award. Her final-year design thesis was subsequently exhibited as part of Studioplex in Madrid in 2012. In 2013, she was awarded a Gold Medal by the State of Gujarat for her B.Arch.

Her professional journey included office training with acclaimed architects Mathew and Ghosh in Bangalore, following which she established her own practice in 2018.

But architecture is not the only discipline that informs Joshi's creative perspective. A trained Kathak dancer and a Diploma-holder in acting from BJAS, Mumbai, she brings an understanding of movement, rhythm, expression and performance into her architectural thinking.

This multidisciplinary background contributes to her belief that architecture is not merely something to be looked at—it is something to be experienced.

When Space Becomes an Experience

Shivani Joshi's design ethos is rooted in the belief that spaces should evoke emotion.

At Pink Coyote, minimalism, contextual sensitivity and understated luxury form the foundation of the studio's work. Yet minimalism here is not synonymous with emptiness. Instead, it is about carefully editing a space so that every element has purpose.

The studio approaches each project as a dialogue between form, emotion and purpose. Spaces are conceived to evolve with the people who inhabit them, making individuality an important component of the design process.

The result is an architecture that is cohesive, custom-made and timeless.

Rather than imposing a predetermined visual identity, the studio begins by listening—to the client, to the site and to the often-unspoken character of a place. This contextual and personal approach allows every project to develop its own narrative.

Architecture with an Individual Character

Pink Coyote's portfolio spans both residential and commercial environments, with a particular focus on luxury villas, boutique offices and bespoke interiors.

Among the projects that strongly represent the studio's design approach are Studio 149, a fashion designer's boutique in Chennai; Mila, an aesthetic and plastic surgery clinic in Ahmedabad; and the Advocates' Chambers within the Gujarat High Court.

Each project presents a different program and context, yet the underlying design sensibility remains consistent: purposeful planning, refined detailing and a strong relationship between the space and its users.

From serene residential environments that blur the boundaries between indoors and nature to carefully detailed workplaces defined by quiet sophistication, the studio seeks to give every project a distinct personality.

Beyond the Visual

One of Pink Coyote's defining characteristics is its understanding that good design extends beyond what is immediately visible.

The studio's emphasis on custom-made elements allows individual projects to tell their own stories. Furniture, materials, spatial relationships and architectural details are considered as interconnected components rather than isolated decisions.

This integrated approach allows architecture and interior design to coexist as a unified experience.

For Pink Coyote, the ultimate objective is not simply to create visually striking spaces, but to create environments that become meaningful to the people who occupy them.

Recognition and a Growing Influence

The studio's approach has received recognition across the design and lifestyle media landscape.

A Quiet Confidence

At a time when architecture and interiors can often become defined by trends, Pink Coyote Design Studio chooses a different trajectory—one based on restraint, context and experience.

Its work demonstrates that luxury does not necessarily require extravagance, and minimalism does not have to mean monotony. Through carefully considered proportions, honest materials, custom details and a deep understanding of the individual, the studio creates spaces that feel both contemporary and enduring.

For Shivani Joshi and Pink Coyote, architecture is ultimately about creating an emotional connection between people and place.

And perhaps that is where the studio's greatest strength lies: in creating spaces that do not simply demand attention, but quietly earn it.
