Poornima’s journey into architecture is deeply influenced by her roots in Kittur, a land celebrated for the bravery and legacy of Kittur Rani Chennamma, the legendary warrior queen and freedom fighter. Growing up in this historically rich environment, she was inspired by stories of courage, resilience, and independence. Her formative years at Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School for Girls played a pivotal role in shaping her character, instilling values of strength, compassion, and self-belief. Beyond academics, the school nurtured creativity, leadership, and confidence, encouraging students to explore their potential and pursue their dreams with determination. Poornima credits both her school and her parents for laying a strong foundation that continues to guide her personal and professional life.
She pursued her Bachelor of Architecture at Gogte Institute of Technology, Belgaum, between 2001 and 2006, where she was mentored by renowned teachers who encouraged deep exploration of design thinking and architectural fundamentals. Her final year thesis, titled Archetypal Typology for Village Knowledge Centres, became a turning point in her journey, igniting a strong desire to contribute to rural development through architecture. This project reinforced her belief that design should not only be visually compelling but also socially responsive and inclusive.
Following graduation, Poornima joined Gayathri and Namith Architects (GNA), where she spent four and a half transformative years. This phase proved instrumental in reshaping her design sensibilities and introducing her to the nuanced world of interiors. The exposure to diverse projects and design philosophies broadened her perspective and helped her develop a holistic understanding of space-making. She acknowledges this experience as a crucial chapter that laid the groundwork for her future practice.
Balancing professional aspirations with personal responsibilities, Poornima found unwavering support in her husband, Shivaprasad, as well as her parents, in-laws, and extended family. As a mother of two, she continues to pursue her passion with the backing of a strong support system and a dedicated team that shares her vision and commitment. She firmly believes that every milestone in her journey has been possible because of this collective belief and encouragement.
